Ohio ranked as the fifth most hateful state in this analysis, apparently due to a high level of violent crime and hate crimes per capita.

Lovely. Although considering the amount of rhetoric surrounding the elections and the actions coming out of the Statehouse, I am unfortunately not surprised. Discrimantion in all forms, IMHO should not be tolerated.

From the report:
"We used multiple data points to help us measure violent crime, hate crime, groups engaging in hate speech, and more general bias. First, we looked at the percentage of people with first- or second-hand experience of violent crime in the last year in each state, as reported in SafeWise's 2020 State of Safety in the Nation research report. Then, we factored in the number of hate groups operating per capita* according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Next, we considered the number of hate crimes recorded per capita, using the most recent data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Finally, we added in Paychex's analysis of the amount of workplace discrimination complaints filed to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) per capita."

How does first-hand experience of violent crime equal experiencing an act of hate? Second-hand exeriences count, too? This type of data muddy the calculations by insisting ANY violence is hate violence. Accurate statistics would calculate only crimes labeled by law enforcement as hate crimes. Here, well, anything goes.

Southern Poverty Law Center as a data source. Some see the SPLC as credible, others can argue bias guiding their classification methods.

Workplace discrimination cases filed to the EEOC. Filed does not equal merit. Of all the cases filed, 64% of such claims are dismissed without merit, 18% are closed for administrative reasons, and 4% are complaints dropped by the charging party. The point here is that this report *assumes* each claim is valid. Based on claim outcomes, these numbers are misleading. The report should only use settled cases in their calculations, and even then there is a problem because it assumes an act of hate on the part of the employer.

I would relabel this report as "Most Uncomfortable States in the U.S. Based on Really Really Subjective Metrics".

Great, another study of dubious veracity.

Most interracial crime is black on white by a factor of 10x.

Please document this claim. I have no idea if this is true, or just one more piece of Big Lie propaganda. I have read that black-on-black crime dwarfs black-on-white crime.

You're flat out wrong and should stop parroting racist talking points.

"According to this FBI data, of the 2,491 murders of black people reported in the U.S. in 2013, 2,245 perpetrators (90%) were black and 189 perpetrators (7.6%) were white. Of 3,005 murders of white people, 2,509 perpetrators (83.5%) were white while 409 perpetrators (13.6%) were black."

The previous two posts both reference intra-racial crime as part of a supposed rebuttal to a claim about inter-racial crime, but who cares about logic, reading comprehension, or Latin prefixes when you've got a narrative to uphold, right?

Here's an article that is a few years old but addresses the topic: https://www.usnews.com/news/articles...by-the-numbers. Looks like in most years there are about 2.5x black-on-white murders as white-on-black. Not sure about other violent crimes.

Racism is abhorrent, but it's also not going to be defeated by shoddy logic and willful lack of comprehension of people's arguments.
