My partner will be moving to Youngstown OH for a job, and I'm trying to get a sense of where I can feasibly look for jobs such that neither of us has an insane commute, but I have access to more than just the Youngstown job market (for reference, I am probably looking for a job in the government or nonprofit sector, and I've also worked at universities before).

Can I look in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Akron, in addition to Youngstown, or are those areas too far away for us to find a spot in the middle with a reasonable commute for both of us?

Do you know of any really neat towns in between Youngstown and any of those cities that might be a nice place to live?

Thank you for your input!

I've heard of people commuting from Youngstown to Cleveland or Pittsburgh, but I don't think it would be that pleasant; it would be a long drive. Akron is easier, but still pretty far. Of course, if you find a job in one of those other places, and live in the middle, I'm guessing the commute wouldn't be that bad. I can't help with suggestions for interesting places between, though.

It really depends on where you're going to live in the Youngstown area.

As for the job search, I really like www.ohiomeansjobs.com

If you have any other questions we would be happy to help.

I work in Pittsburgh, and have coworkers from Youngstown. It's just over an hour from Youngstown to downtown Pittsburgh during rush hour. The route into Pittsburgh from the north is the easiest, least congested route into the city. It sometimes takes people living east and west of the city the same amount of time for their 15-20 mile commute as it does for the 60 mile commute from Youngstown.

I live in Cortland and many neighbors and friends commute to great Cleveland or Akron. I work just north of Youngstown and I work with people that live in New Castle, PA, Aliquippa, PA, Brimfield Township (near Kent), etc.

At the moment I'm especially interested in places between Cleveland and Youngstown that might make the commute to each un-horrible. Let me know if you have any thoughts!

I know I said I couldn't help with this earlier, but I was playing around with Google maps, and I see that Kent is about equidistant between Cleveland and Youngstown, about 40-45 minutes drive, each way. (obviously not directly between Youngstown and Cleveland)

I went to KSU, and I recall the town was a nice little place, overall. I know there has been a lot of redevelopment/revitalization done there, recently. But, I haven't experienced that, personally.

I would look into Champion Township, Austintown, Middlefield, Chardon, etc. Definitely look into Portage or Geauga Counties.

I live in Cortland and there are a lot of people in Howland/Warren/Cortland/Champion, etc that commute to greater Cleveland.
