This question is not only about Ohio, but many of the cities listed are in that state, so I post here.

As a person who likes to travel by road to see the sites of this country, I realize I have never been to any of the cities listed below. I grew up in the NE so I know that the big cities of Boston, NY, Philadelphia, Washington, etc.. can be interesting. They have great museums, intense history, and many are beautiful places surrounded by beautiful countryside. So, I know cities can be interesting. At the same time, I am a great fan of National Parks such as Yosemite and Yellowstone with their great vistas.

I found Washington state to be beautiful, and the same for upstate PA and NY; so a beautiful countryside is a draw too.

Planning a road trip, I know that if I were to visit Cincinnati or Detroit I could at the least check out a baseball game.

If you have friends who have never been in the region, where would you take them to tour?
  • Fort Wayne
  • Columbus
  • Cincinnati
  • Lexington
  • Louisville
  • Cleveland
  • Detroit
  • Grand Rapids
  • South Bend

And what is there to see where you would take them?

Cleveland has great cultural stuff on par with the northeast. Also has the lake to the north and Cuyahoga valley national park to the south. Overall northeast Ohio probably hits everything you're looking for the best (not that others are bad).

I voted other. The two best things in Ohio is Hocking Hills and the National Museum of the Air Force.

What sort of things do you like to see and do? If baseball is your thing, then I suggest Pittsburgh. PNC Park is hard to top.

Detroit Institute of the Arts and the Henry Ford museums are a must in the Detroit area. Agree Hocking Hills is our best nature reserve, and the Air Force Museum in Dayton is top notch. Pittsburgh, Cincy and Cleveland both have great ballparks (if you’re a baseball fan), Louisville has a great culinary scene, Columbus has the Blue Jackets and a world-reknowned zoo, and if in SW Ohio near Cincinnati, Jungle Jim’s is a must (Google it).

From your list I chose Cleveland. I’d consider Pittsburgh, too.
