We are researching places for retirement. I understand that Social Security is not taxed but how about pensions? And what rate is the property tax? We are considering the Columbus area.

Thank you.

Pensions are partially taxed, but I can't find a site that says specifically what part of partial that is. Property taxes vary depending on the community.

An easy way to find out about property taxes is to look up some houses in the area you are interested in on Zillow.com. Most of the listings have current tax information and a link to the county assessor's website where tax rate breakdowns and tax history for the property can be found. It will be hard for posters here to answer your general question since (as already posted) rates vary from place to place, so it makes sense for you to do your own research.

Good luck with your search! We also are looking for a house to retire to and we are very attracted to Clintonville, a charming and convenient area north of downtown Columbus.
