Ranking states as a whole on metrics such as healthcare and activities and amenities is very misleading as some regions, such as Greater Cleveland in Ohio excels in such areas, especially compared to more rural areas of Ohio.

Also read the methodology carefully. Personally, I would consider ocean shoreline mileage a negative given accelerating sea level and ocean heat content rise, more powerful tropical storms and hurricanes, etc. Also, consider your personal weather preferences; persons who enjoy more mild temperatures and four seasons of weather likely would not prefer much of the Southeast over Ohio, especially as atmospheric warming accelerates more rapidly. One area in which much of Ohio is deficient is public transportation, but much less so in Greater Cleveland; Lake County even offers point-to-point public transportation services and at cheaper fares for seniors, a service likely offered in very few of the nation's counties.

Looking at WalletHub's healthcare rating parameters, Greater Cleveland with the state's top two ranked hospital systems, including the world-renown Cleveland Clinic, likely would rank higher than the state as a whole and much higher than some regions in the state.

Interesting reading, but aspects of their methodology seem laughable IMO. On “quality of health care” for a state, they give 6x weighting to the combined COVID lagging indicator stats (positive tests and deaths “in the past week”). Much lower importance placed on the actual quality of health care facilities in the state. Pretty narrow viewpoint when one is forward-planning a retirement location...again, my opinion only.

I enjoy reading these but some of the methodology logic eludes me.

Thanks for sharing. You were right to issue the up-front disclaimer in your post...lol.
