noticed while taking the 3 bus the other day from south omaha, the old stockyards 8 theatre is still standing and empty

anyone think they should put a new discount theatre there or should something else go there (and if so what)

I know the old blockbuster at 36th and L has been converted into a shopping center with a AT&T store and 2 empty buildings next door.

I would like to see another theater, though honestly they are a bit obsolete (netflix, p2p). Perhaps tear it down and put up an apartment complex of some sort. Omaha can always use more low to mid range apartments (would help boost the population density).

I thought it was a nice theater. What a shame it went under. I agree with harshbarj that either replace it with another or some apartments/condos!

I miss that theater, but it got scary towards the end with the fights and stabbings. I would like to see another dollar theater but I don't see it happening.

It would require some work to make it usable for other things. Hard to say.

When it first opened it wasn't too bad. I don't remember how long ago that was, but I remember going to many movies when I was younger. I used to live in South Omaha. Even after I moved out my grandma lived in South Omaha so my mom and I visited her regularly and sometimes that included a movie at the Stockyards.

In the last several years though it really went down hill. The quality of the people went south, there were frequent fights and people just being generally ignorant and causing a scene. The equipment; projectors, sound equipment, etc.. were not properly maintained to save money so the quality of the movie viewing experience really went down. This allowed them to maintain one key benefit to the entire place. Cheapness. It got to the point where I just stayed away, because it took more effort, patience, and tolerance for me to even go and try to enjoy myself.
