Hey guys, long story short I'm getting married in march, and I'm doing what I can to save some money on recurring bills!

Right now I have cox, and all I need is cable tv that has the bravo network(she loves the housewives and the kardashians) and Internet. My cox bill is appx 130 a month and when I called to see if i could get lower rates, there weren't really any options.

AT&T has u-verse and I think their introductory rate would go up after it expires, but for that I'd be looking at about 85/month.

Do you guys have any other ideas or options?

On a side note, we switched to StraightTalk wireless at Walmart. It's 45/month for unlimited everything, and since it's prepaid monthly there aren't any surprise fees at the end of the month. Also, you don't necessarily need to buy a phone from them, many phones from other companies will work. The service has been great so far, so I think it's a keeper! They also have the iPhone 5, but you have to buy it for 650' although you can finance it on a Walmart credit card for 25/month no interest. We are paying 70/month for what was 110 with our last provider!

Anyways, back to cable/internet... Any ideas?

Thanks!

I have u-verse, and its about $130 for TV and Internet, for one of the higher packages, and upgraded internet speeds.

What exactly is the question? Do their rates go up? They can - if you choose a rebate card, your rate can up up by $10-20 after 12 months. They're pretty open about everything if you play around on the website.

I suppose my question should be "does anyone have service that's cheaper? Are there options other than cox and uverse?"

Do you just watch Bravo? If so, many of their shows can be watched online - full episodes player - Bravo TV Official Site | Bravo TV Official Site . Get rid of cable and get DSL or cable modem.

What do you think about Straight Talk so far? Maybe you can get by with using that as your Internet connection.

Congrats on cutting back on the bills. How about Netflix, Hulu Plus, or watching Bravo online? I know she may think she can't do without cable, but believe me, once you do without it for a while, you realize you weren't missing much (especially these days when nearly every show under the sun can be found online for free). I haven't had cable in well over a decade, and don't miss it a bit. Too many other things to do with my time, and when I want to watch a show, I can rent a movie or use NetFlix to get me through the cold months of the year.

As for phones, despite that I work for a digital marketing company and, among other things, we make apps for iPhones, I ditched my iPhone for a $25/mo AT&T GoPhone and am surprised to say that I love it. No contract. Reliable service. Unlimited text. More than enough minutes. When you work on a computer all day, the last thing you want to see is a smartphone or tablet when you go home (so mine often sat in my purse while I paid through the nose for it). Plus, I also think it's rude to be on the phone when you're with people, so when visiting with friends/family, my iPhone again sat unused in my purse/car. It was essentially a very expensive paperweight. lol I figure if I can do without one working in the industry I do, most others can do without one, too, especially when it means saving $75/mo to spend on other things, like vacations, dinner parties, girl nights, etc. Just my 2 cents.

Keep up the great work!

I understand the conversion to digital brought a bunch of new stations to broadcast television. Instead of one Channel 7, there are several (7-1, 7-2, etc). It's almost like getting a free limited version of cable tv.

I really haven't noticed any changes though. I've been a cable subscriber for at least 15 years.

My fiancée, sister and cousins get together once a week to watch the housewives... So it would be a group intervention of guys(me and their husbands) vs all the girls. I can't imagine a happy outcome for the guys ...

lol Yeah, you're certainly outnumbered. Pick your battles, as they say.
