I saw on the news this nice, normal looking fellow who wants the California county he lives in and some southern Oregon counties to join forces and secede from their respective States. He wants to call their new state Jefferson. Personally, I think he could come up with a better name, but he already has a State of Jefferson flag. Those two XX's are a bit daunting, but maybe they're temporary until a State Bird is chosen. Apparently, this is not a new idea and was first bandied around before WWII. The idea was shelved when Pearl Harbor occurred.

Curry County, you listening?

I found a State Song for them:

You'd have a state approaching the least populous in the US and the poorest (unless marijuana is made a legal crop). I do not want to live in the kind of "libertarian paradise" that would result.

You should also look around for "Cascadia."

Which would you choose to be the state capitol: Alturas, Gasquet, or Paisley?

I kid because I love my home state of Jefferson.

You've got to pick Weed for the capital... Or failing that maybe Happy Camp or Cave Junction.

Arcata hippies and Lake County ranchers, together at last!

But seriously... I wonder what makes the Jeffersonians think that the ultra-liberal coastal counties would coexist with the conservative inland counties any better in a separate state than they do currently.

If the State of Jefferson did ever secede and include Jackson County, Oregon, soon you'd see Ashland would declare itself an independent city-state with the official language of government being Elizabethan-era English. No way the artsy theatre crowd and old rich retirees who run that town are going to bow down to Yreka...

Meanwhile the Emerald Triangle region would become a semi-autonomous narco state run by the pot growers in the mountain backwoods of Humboldt and Trinity Counties similar to Sinaloa, Mexico.

There have been several discussions about this on the General U.S. forum. It seems pop up in a lot of places from time to time. I agree with PNW-Type-Gal. Not a place for me either.
