I'm 22 years old and will finish my Masters of Social Work (concentration in nonprofit management/ administration) in 2 years. By the time I'm finished, I'll have about 5 years of work experience working in nonprofit administration/ management as well.

I'm currently living in Arizona and while it's a beautiful state, it's HOT and Downtown Phoenix isn't all that exciting. Phoenix is a very spread-out city. I'm from Northern California-- Sonoma County and I miss the fog and the rain and living near a Coast. I think I would LOVE living in Oregon, specifically Portland. I plan on visiting before I move, of course.... and I know the job market changes and it will be different in 2 years, when I plan to move-- but I was wondering, how is the nonprofit job scene in Portland. I know jobs are competitive anywhere, but with several years of experience, would I be competitive?

I love the idea of living in Oregon and I definitely want to get out of AZ, but I wouldn't move here without a job.

I would love any advice thanks!

You may want to post this in the Portland forum.

PSU has an excellent MSW program that is well respected here. Can you get a job in Portland? Probably. Will it pay well and be what you want? Probably not.

I was going to put it similarly. There are a fair number of non-profit jobs here, but Portland both produces and attracts a lot of people interested in those jobs.

And while salaries in the non-profit world haven't changed all that much, the cost of living in Portland certainly has.
