Good gawd, this is embarrassing. Likely to hit the national news cycle soon.

Breaking News!! Breaking News!! Stop the presses.

Councilman in Echo, Oregon, population 706, posts gay slur on Facebook.

Personally, I'm not going to lose and sleep over it.

Since this is not the forum for politics I'll just ad this one comment to this thread.

Emboldened.

Makes me think maybe to qualify as a 'city' there should be a minimum population requirement of 5,000 or something. Also, how fortunate it is that we can't read each others minds.

So what's the big deal? I'd rather have an honest politician than a fake

The size of Echo is not the point here, though it is part of micropolitan statistical area that includes Hermiston and Pendleton, OR.

So you are OK with a town council person saying he "will spit on his grave when he dies of AIDS"?

So, the person he said that to... what had that person said to tick the councilman off so badly? I suspect the rude comment didn't come out of thin air and there is a lot more to the story.

Not that the comment is excusable, but something provoked it. The press loves to drum up indignation and drama by not including the whole story.

SMH ^. Did you even read the article, Woodsmoke?

The councilman was trolling a designated Facebook page for a transgender film. Sounds like he went their specifically looking for a fight. He apparently found one with the filmmaker. He was out of line even going to that page in the first place and the fact that he did so speaks badly of his character.

His comment wasn't reported by the press it was on FaceBook until he shut it down.
