Hi. I am from a small town in Northern New York and am looking for change to improve my life. I was hoping some of you may have ideas of where good places to start over may be.

About me, I am 30 years old. I have a bachelor's degree in theater arts and have finished about half of a masters degree in global studies. My job history has been a bit all over the place and unremarkable. I worked in a gas station for about 4 years, substitute teaching for 3, I have had a few delivery jobs and some inventory work.

In addition to this I have a TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) which I received in Prague, and I spent 6 months doing missionary work in Quebec and French Polynesia.

I live in a small village in an area with not many opportunities. I want to live somewhere that's not too big, but some place where there is opportunity to both work as well as to explore and experience new things.

I was also going to say Ashland. You might find more job opportunities in Medford, though, and you could drive to Ashland for artistic interests.

I learned that Medford just recently changed regulations that now allow Uber and Lyft to operate there. So, even though your job history is spotty, if you get a new enough car, you could always be an Uber or Lyft driver.

Good luck.

I'd also look at Eugene. They have a lot going on at the Hult center there to compliment your theater arts degree. I'm not sure that I would rule out Portland area. Maybe look at Hillsboro so you can be in the outskirts, but still have easy access to Portland?

I think there is a local theater on the main drag in Hillsboro’s downtown which is charming and has feel of a smaller community.

Corvallis/Albany may be another place to look. Corvallis is a college town, so there is more going on than in a typical town of 50k residents. Both Corvallis and Albany have fairly well-attended local civic theater productions, or at least used to a few years ago.
