If you look at LC stats, it seems that just a bit over a quarter of the towns population is retirement age.
That seems pretty normal for a town that size...

Of those, you may wonder how many are actually retired, how many are long time residents that aged in place (and didn't pick LC as a retirement destination), how many are absentee landlords with vacation houses.

The town swells greatly in the summer time as it is a major vacation getaway destination for Portlanders and out of state tourists.

After summer is over, the crappy weather hits, the tourists leave, it seems like a lot of stores get closed for the season, hotel rates fall by at least 50%, and it gets pretty quiet.

Jobs are mostly seasonal, but there are "normal jobs", but not that many.

I would think for young people, after the newness of living on the coast wears off, there probably isn't much to do for excitement when summer ends.

I do know that a lot of college kids get summer jobs there, like working for hotels, service industry, etc.
I always chat up hotel desk clerks and am surprised that a lot of them are from out of state, attending college in Oregon and working on the coast for a summer.
That's probably a dream summer job for a kid from Nebraska or someplace inland.

It's true you will see a lot of older people during the off season, a lot of them are retired RV'ers travelling up and down the west coast...

That's the time to check out the coast and not have to spend a lot of money on campgrounds, hotels and meals, and fight tourist traffic constantly.
