does anyone know if the tap water in The Dalles is OK to drink?

I googled (of course) and found this report but it's from 2016.

I will probably get a Brita Filter at least but thought I'd see if anyone knows.

If you are going to buy a filter, make sure it is one of the ones that takes out lead (only 1 of the Britas does), particularly if you are in area where the water mains (or house mains) are old. In my area the city had to rip out a huge chunk of the water mains because some of the 1910-1925 sections had lead stub tubes.

I don't know anything specific about The Dalles, but I do know that in my area you can taste the difference when they switch from surface water to wells in the dry part of the year.

I don't know about The Dalles, but if the water here on the coast is any indication, I wouldn't drink it.

Water quality varies greatly, even within the municipalities. (Some is served by surface, some by wells, all by very aged distribution systems)

1) By your address you determine who serves your water
2) Contact the water purveyor and get a current report. (Every water district is required to have current reports. (I have 3 water systems for multiple services on rural systems. I have mine... a utility company has an entire staff to do that.
3) If you are concerned... get a very good and serviceable, portable system and bring it along. A roommate / coworker in Thailand was from CA and very picky about water... so brought her system with her to Thailand.

Water pressure is something you will not be short of in The Dalles (if below the ridge). They were looking into installing pelton wheels to generate power (and slow down / absorb energy) from the HIGH pressure water flows serving the central part of city).

thanks, everyone.

shopping for a Brita will apparently be like anything else: I have to google and try to figure it out. everything is so complicated! but maybe it just feels like that since I have relocated twice in 4 months - way too much change in my life!
