I have lived half my life in Florida and have lived previously in the Orlando area. But I am looking to move back to be closer to my aging parents.

I know new grads are currently starting around 22.00/hr. I have read on other posts that people know experienced nurses that are making 30.00 plus an hour. I find this very hard to believe based on my online research so far.

I am looking for responses from RN's who have experience and what their pay scale is hourly.
Especially from nurses who currently work for Orlando Health or Florida Hospital

I have applied for a job at Florida Hospital and they have contacted me.

I am also posting this on behalf of all Nurses who are looking to relocate to the Orlando area so they will have real facts on hospital nursing salaries in the Orlando area.

Thanks

A close friend is a Med/Surg floor nurse with several years experience working at Tampa General (a Level One Trauma Center) and is making in the low to mid 50K range. It apparently doesn't get much higher than that in Central Florida without special certification (ICU/ER/NeoNatal, etc.) or working overtime.

No they're right, as a previous nurse I know. There are some LPNs fresh out of college working Night shift making 22 an hour. Starting pay for a BSN is around 28 an hour around here.

My BIL got his BSN degree a year ago, but has been caring for his father (now deceased) and helping his mom clear out all his dad's old paperwork & stuff since then. He's passed his certification for his RN, but has no experience. Where are his best chances to apply for that kind of starting salary? I would love to get him & Grammy to move here to be closer to my kids! Thank you.

Well since he has experience in dealing with the elderly, Maybe he should check out assisted livings, Nursing Homes, and Private duties. Then look into Florida Hospital, and Orlando Heath. It would be weird if he does not get a call back from any of the hospitals as they are always hiring.

I worked in NYC before working in Orlando, Florida. Orlando has two main big hospitals. Orlando Health and Florida Hospitals, with sister hospitals between the two. While in NYC, applied for Florida Hospitals, a recruiter contacted me. Had a series of interviews with Florida Hospital. Be careful with Florida Hospital. Make sure that you have a hire contract before you resigned from your previous job. Florida Hospitals are doing manpower pooling. As with Orlando Health, they want you to do everything and the nurses are nasty and they don't pay good. I was hired in Orlando Health as a ICU nurse, I have 6 different preceptors in the course of 2 months. First day on the job, My preceptor welcomed me by saying that she does not need to teach me because I will not stay in their unit and gave me a silent treatment. They pull me into the office because I time in 30 minutes earlier than my time. The Icu uses sunrise as documentation, they requires you head to toe assessment q 4h and focus assessment q 2H. One nursing aid for 20 patients. Patients are bedbound and heavy patients. They pull me in the office because I extended my time 30 minutes and finally they fired me after 2 months and place in my record as incompetent and not able to perform. I ask and beg them to be patient with me for it takes time for me to get use to the documentation and they refuse and they mark my record Not for Rehire. Here I am I came back to NY.

That's what happens in a place where for some reason a disproportionately high number people want to work despite sub-par wages....the employers can do pretty much whatever they want and there isn't a need felt for employee loyalty since they know they can find another warm body immediately. You won't have the months of warm/hot weather and strip mall culture, but at least you're probably in a place with decent wages and working somewhere that makes an attempt to keep employees happy.
