Hi,
We are moving to Florida from Massachusetts in Feb. and need to find an apartment STAT!

I was looking into the Village Apartments but apparently Rosemont is a bad area?

Any where good?

Budget-$800-1200

We are also fairly young, so while safety is our first priority...any tips on best places to live for two people in their late twenties/mid-thirties?

Most LGBT friendly neighborhoods?

Thanks!

800-1200 is very easy to find in Orlando. I would look around Dr. Phillips, Windermere, Winter Park and Downtown. Check craiglist first before going into 100% rental development.

I would suggest that you search in the Thornton Park, Lake Eola/downtown Orlando, and downtown Winter Park/Park Ave. areas. The downtown Winter Park/Park Ave. area is not necessarily the most LGBT friendly but is still a great area if you can find a place you like in your price range. Dr. Phillips and Windermere are nice suburban areas but I doubt that they are very LGBT friendly.

Agreed with the areas you listed.

While Dr Phillips may not have a high concentration of LGBT residents like the other areas you listed. LGBT people still live there and it is most definitely LGBT friendly. They wouldn't feel unsafe or judged there.

Really? I guess maybe if you are looking for a 1 BR downtown, you might be ok with a budget of $1000, but I don't see it working for Dr Phillips

Thanks! How do you guys feel about Winter Springs? We fell in love with what we have learned so far. Although I know it's a bit out of the city...

Safe? Friendly?

I'll have to look into Dr Phillips. Is that a safe area too?

Look at these links for the downtown area:

Downtown Orlando Apartments | SteelHouse Orlando

One Bedroom Floor Plans | 55 West | ZRS

Post Properties

Camden Orange Court

Steel House is a new building, considered Uptown, walkable to everything, but on the wrong side of a very busy street (which you'd need to cross to get downtown).

Post Parkside is in Thornton Park and right on Lake Eola. I live here. No problems to report, and depending on which building you live in, your utilities are included. My place is a 3/3, so I don't know anything about 1 bedroom floor plans, but management has been great and the location is the best in downtown, IMO.

A friend lives in 55 W and complains of noise on weekend nights, but otherwise likes the place a lot. The location is excellent.

Camden is farther north in downtown and I don't know much about it.

ETA: Downtown is very LGBT-friendly, esp Thornton Park. Ivanhoe and Mills/50 are also good neighborhood choices, but neither have apartments options available right now that I'm aware of. However, in Mills/50, a new building is under construction. Not sure what the rents will run.

Winter Springs is fine if you want suburban. I don't know anything about individual locations, though.

Dr. Phillips is a very nice area, but is very congested. It is quite a bit south of downtown. I have no knowledge of apartments in that area. If you want to be nearer the attractions, I'd suggest this area.

Winter Park is hit or miss. But do check out Winter Park Florida Apartments | Winter Park Village Apartments -- units are small, from what I've been told, but the location is convenient to everything.

Also, the Lofts at SODO (just south of downtown) will probably work, too. I can't get the website to load right now, but you can Google it. Zoned for dodgy schools, though, so avoid if you plan on staying long-term and having kids.
