It's got quite a bit of sensationalism in it by including property crime (which they admit in the article). Because of the large number of tourists coming through here, there's a decent amount of shoplifting, for example, which qualifies under property crime, but isn't really something that I live my life in fear of. It does help inflate the numbers, though, and is why you see a lot of tourist areas higher on the list than non-tourist areas.

Though in comparison it seems everyone talks about Miami being "so dangerous" from a violent crimes aspect yet Orlando is pretty close in terms of stats, one in 11 odds per thousand versus Miami's one in 10.

Yeah…I just compare it with places outside of the state (many of which I've lived in/near) and it makes this area seem fairly mild when it comes to the danger factor.

If you're curious to see the actual breakdown, which makes this study far more boring, you can look at the numbers from the FBI here:

FBI — Table 4 - Colorado through Idaho

Like others have said, this includes property crime. In terms of violent crime, the cities of Miami, Homestead, Fort Worth, Daytona Beach, Riviera Beach and probably a few others, are worse than Orlando.

One wouldn't consider 1 in 10 per 1000 Violent Crime odds a whole lot worse than 1 in 11.

It's a standard numbers shill.

Frankly I'd think Lake Buena Vista is the most dangerous place in Florida.
If you happen to report a crime there you'd be 1 per 10 residents... or mathematically 100 per 1000 residents. That'd make it 10 times more dangerous than Miami Beach.

Lake Buena Vista is probably not the best example given the million or so visitors coming/going through there annually. In addition, small towns of 1000 rarely have random acts of violent crime. The term we're discussing is "most dangerous", and not "highest odds of a crime".
