I know that this is a YMMV kind of situation but we moved locally mid year, drove kid to “old school” and would like to keep doing that this coming year as well. Yes, we are the idiot parents who moved. Both schools are excellent- one not necessarily better than the other, just want to try to keep him there for consistency.

The school was not open to transfers as some schools are for “school choice”.

Has anyone successfully done something like this? “Back home” you’d get a friend or relative to be the childcare provider on record and then the child could go to that school. Thanks!

Could you ask one of your old neighbors to have him use their address for the school?

I had a friend who did this, but it was only for a few months so that he could finish the school year with his friends.

also, rather than drive him to school, could you drive him to their house in the morning so that he can take the bus from their house and go there after the school bus lets him off?

When you register a child for school you have to list your address and I believe you have to provide some proof that you live at that address. You sign the form verifying that all the information you provide is true. If you file false information, your child can be kicked out of that school and required to attend the school they are zoned for.

I'm not suggesting that you provide false information; I'm just saying there might be negative consequences if you do.

Under some form of anonymity, I would call the OCPS administrative offices and explain the situation. If you're not demanding transportation accommodations and highly competitive magnet programs arent part of the equation, I would think it'd be a non-issue that just requires some signatures along the way.
