We are renting a villa next year in late april/early may. I don't think we're going to need pool heat but I need opinions from people that live in the O-town area. These places charge alot just to heat the pool to what to me feels too warm anyway ie; 80 degrees.

So let me know what you all think. Thanks!!

It is a tough call. I went to a hotel this weekend and if the pool wasn't heated then we would have froze (on Sunday but Saturday was fine until the evening). Florida's weather is so unpredictable especially in April but it mostly warm days and not cool - so if you are used to cooler temps then you will probably be OK with out it.

It depends. Many pools are screened and that decreases the water temperature about 10 degrees. My pool is not screened and it is just now (mid May) getting warm enough for me - 84 degrees. It was around 80 in April - May and though he thought it a little chilly - DH still enjoyed swimming. I went in for a couple of short dips but didn't stay long at that temperature. I think it would be chilly to swim in the evening not so much in the daytime.

The reason it's so much more expensive is that to effectively heat the pool you really need two systems - a heat pump and solar. My neighbor's pool is heated and he said to keep the water heated costs him about $80.00 per month.

If the pool is screened in, YES! If it is not screened in - yes for April, and it's questionable for May. I have a screened in pool, no heat and we even keep a thermal blanket over it to try to get it useable this time of year. It's just now to the point where we will use it.

Should be no problem - have been swimming in mine since late March! It's a little cool, but hey, I like swimming in the springs, too!
