Did you know, in 1859 there was a solar-superstorm that knocked out our 15 year old telegraph system throughout the US and Europe?
The Aurora Borealis' could be seen in such far away places as Hawaii and even Cuba! Imagine back then, no television, no internet, no radio to listen to experts tell you what was happening. It must have been so frightening!
And yes, it can happen again, and scientists expect it will, but none can predict when. Only that it will be more devastating to us now due to our modern reliance on the power grid.
I knew this one! I remember reading about it in an Astronomy class I took in college. And yeah, scientists are very concerned about the next solar superstorm....as we all should be.
