KYW: New Jersey officials issued a health alert Wednesday after six people mistakenly drank torch lamp oil thinking it was apple juice, and one died as a result.

Before watching the video I thought, Man how could something like that happen? Then I saw a bottle of oil next to a bottle of juice and my goodness, they are nearly identical in color and consistency. It's scary that the oil doesn't have a safety top since it has a warning saying it is potentially fatal if swallowed.

I assume one would know it wasn't juice after one swig but it looks like even that one swig could have dire consequences. What a shame. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this.

i dont know anythng about torch lamp oil, but would you keep it in the fridge with the apple juice? what a terrible way to go

I don't know much about torch oil either but imagine that you're having a late-afternoon picnic in the backyard. The bottle of oil and the bottle of juice are both sitting on the table, next to one another. If you're distracted, perhaps watching the kids or just chatting with a friend, you grab the wrong bottle and pour... .
