Good Morning & Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there
A special thanks to M. Mike for today's very interesting DJK and you'll even
be able to eat breakfast after you read it
. . . . . Didja Know?
There possibly could have been 51 states in the USA had it not been for the attack on
Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941.
There was a proposal for creating the separate state of “Jefferson” to draw attention to the
horrible conditions of state roads along the OR/CA border, which became impassable when it
rained or snowed.
In November 1941 a group of men achieved national media attention when, displaying hunting
rifles, they stopped traffic on U.S. Route 99 and passed out copies of their Proclamation that
the state of Jefferson was in "patriotic rebellion against the States of California and Oregon."
The secession movement came to an abrupt end with the bombing of Pearl Harbor and coincidentally
the "state of Jefferson" was one of the few places in the continental USA to be the subject of an
attack during WWII.

Thanks Joy. Some of us are probably wondering what things could have been like with the state of Jefferson on the west coast. Many of us would be planning our vacation and saying "Let's drive on the coast to Jefferson, Oregon, and Washington", not to mention colleges/universities, "Hey I graduated from Jefferson State University".
Apparently they decided to give up that statehood idea and make a TV show called "The Jeffersons"...probably figured if everyone was going to laugh at their idea they may as well get laughs from a TV show.
