FLAG ETIQUETTE
I thought July 4 would be the perfect day to post some info about flag etiquette. (Many of these rules and customs are universal.)
On July 7, 1976, the 94th Congress of the United States amended Public Law and set forth rules, customs and etiquette for displaying the American Flag. Below are some of the rules and customs.
The flag should only be displayed from sunrise to sunset unless it is illuminated after dark.
The flag should not be displayed in inclement weather unless it is an all-weather flag.
If the flag is carried in a procession with other flags, the American flag should be on the marching right.
If on a float, the flag should only be displayed on a staff.
The flag should never be draped over the hood, top, sides or back of any vehicle.
When displayed against a wall, either horizontally or vertically, the union (the part with the stars) should be uppermost and to the flag's right (to the observer's left).
When displayed over the middle of a street, the flag should be vertical and the union should be to the north on an east/west street and to the east on a north/south street.
When a flag is flown at half-staff, it should first be raised to the top of the staff and then lowered to mid-staff. It should be raised to the peak again before it is lowered at the end of the day.
The flag should never be used as wearing apparel.
The flag should never have any insignia, design, drawing or other image attached to or placed upon it. (Superimposed images of eagles, soldiers, organization insignia, crosses, etc. are not acceptable.)
Have a safe and happy Independence Day!

Another one that gets me is that people are too disrespectful to pause, shut up and put their hand over their heart when the flag is raised or when it passes during a parade.
