I am going to be buying a new laptop and getting rid of my desktop. The new laptop has wireless internet features. Chicago has many, many WI-FI,Hot spots, even the grocery stores. I was wondering should I keep my paid DSL service or just use one of the many spots for free? I have at least a dozen hot spots in my neighborhood.
I sit here, in my lazy boy, with my lap top and research things I see on the news. Entertain myself by writing on forums during commercials. Show my better half pictures we took today before I print them. I'm connected thru a home network and the DSL on my office desktop. If I had a wi-fi close enough to connect from home I would get rid of my DSL. I don't. If you do, and you are sure Daley or Blogo won't start taxing you for using it for free, pull the plug.

Good question, ChicagoRon . . .
I considered the same thing since there are at least three and possibly more within range of my laptop but I still keep paying the 50 bucks each month.
These aren't public Wi-Fis but they are definitely available because my Mac Laptop will "ask" if I want to switch to a stronger signal.

If you can connect with free Wi-Fi from home then drop the DSL, otherwise you’ll be running out of the house to go check things on the laptop all the time. Otherwise free Wi-Fi isn’t convenient when you want to take your shoes off and you're not at home.
