People who abbreviate words such as r for are and 4 instead of for. It is not cute.

I don't like it either but I can decipher that easier than those phone numbers listed as words.

I see it on the internet - which I guess is OK. People tend to abbreviate here - it's quite acceptable (remember LOL, etc...). Where do you see this being done that you don't like it?

Agreed - it's not cute. I just hope that they don't forget how to spell. I think these abbreviations began with texting

Yeah I think texting is the culprit here

Oops. I guess you don't like my user name then?!? I was looking for an easy one as I'm the slowest typist you'll ever meet. (not trying to be cute)
I don't normally like abbreviations - especially X-mas, but have been known to use f/., or some of the other online sentiments like WTG, OMG, or LOL. In the real world though, I don't use them.

When kids do it I wonder if they know how to spell the word at all. I agree, it's not cute.

This used to bother me but I've moved to the dark side. I'm not an especially egregious abuser but definitely do use those shortcuts on IMs and such. Much of my writing style and usage is different depending on circumstances: texting, IM, email, essays, creative writing, letter writing, professional writing, etc. So, as long as the person "knows better" and only uses it in "acceptable" circumstances, I'm OK with it.

Welcome to the world of texting! I've seen a trend lately where they are speaking it....OMG! And actually saying O-M-G.
