I've come across people with this attitude many times, and I am usually thankful they don't have children of their own because they are generally "missing the gene" necessary to be a good parent. In many cases I cannot identify with these people at all because they are so self-centered I couldn't be bothered to work on a friendship with them.
The great thing is that beyond the rude glares towards me or my family, occasionally inappropriate comments, unsolicited & unwise advice, people with this kind of attitude impact life so little and are out-numbered by "normal people" so significantly that other than adding to the tax & economic base of our planet they remain rather benign and insignificant to the rest of us.
