DH took 9 y.o. daughter for routine eye exam and she had a complete meltdown when they tried to put dilation drops in her eyes. So they ended up doing it without and everything was perfect. Other 9 y.o. daughter went to same doc just a few weeks prior and nobody said a word about dilation drops. I'm confused.
Does your eye doctor try to dilate your kids' eyes for a routine eye exam?
Simple trick for eye drops - have her lie on her back, with eyes closed. Put a drop in each corner of her (closed) eyes, closest to her nose. Then, while she's still laying down , tell her to open her eyes without moving her head. The drop(s) will roll right in .

sounds like a great idea. wonder why doc doesn't do this? thanks so much. we'll try this next time.
Maybe you need a different eye doctor...one that specializes in working with children...this is a speciality...if your daughter will be needing more eye exams, call around.
Some eye doctors will want to do it every year. We only agree to the dilation every third visit or so, unless there has been a marked change in vision.
