I took my son to the mall today to do some shopping, and to let him play in the mall play area. While I was sitting there watching my son play, I noticed some people drop off a little girl, she could have only been 2 1/2 years old max, and leave! They didn't even take her coat and shoes off, they just dropped her off and left the mall! I kept my eye on her to see if they came back. She was there by herself for a good hour! Some of the other Mom's noticed she was there by herself as well, and were also keeping an eye on her. At one point she ran out of the play area so one of the other Mom's ran after her and caught her and called mall security. Mall security came and stayed with her until the people who dropped her off there finally came back and got her. Mall security just turned her over to these people when they finally came back (after leaving her alone for an hour). Once again, this little girl was 2 1/2 max, she was hardly speaking yet! I was so disgusted and feel mall security should have called DCFS, instead of turning this poor child back over to these people!

I agree. Security should have reported it to the police and then they in turn would have contacted DYFS. Unfortunately that probably wasn't the first time they left the child and certainly won't be the last.

Why didn't any of you that witnessed them leaving her call the police???? I would have whipped out my cell phone as soon as they left and called! I can't imagine how horrible her home life is if she is treated that way!

We thought by calling mall security, they would take care of this. Had I known mall security was simply going to give her back to these people without getting the police involved, the other Mom's and myself would have gone over their heads and called police. I feel terrible now that we didn't.

Listen, when your put into a situation like this, it's difficult. You would like to believe that security had enough common sense to handle the situation correctly. Unfortunately, they didn't. One can only hope if it happens again, someone will respond appropriately.

It's such a shame some don't want the responsibility of their own children.

Had I seen that, I would have called the police, only because I was once told by Mall Security they have no rights to do anything...my child was hit by a boy in the face for no good reason. We caught up to the parents and gave them a piece of our minds. We told the "guard" what happened and he said he could not do a thing anyway. Oh, well...I hope you don't hear a story about that little girl later...

If this ever happens again, I will definately just call the police and not even mess with mall security. Now I know better.

Don't beat yourself up over it. It's sad, it happened, you did what you thought was right. That's all anyone can ask.

The good part of this is that now we all know what to do should we see this happen.

What a shame. That poor baby.....
