My family is in a situation where we will be moving and may have to move our daughter, 14, to a new school. We would like to move to an entirely new location, but have been hesitating purely for the sake of our daughter. I worry moving to a new school can be traumatizing. Of course, it can be a good thing too (or I keep telling myself). Have any of you transferred your children to a new school, and how did it go? If you could do it over, would you have kept them in the original school?
I think for most kids (and their parents) the first year is bumpy, but gets better after that. I would weigh the benefits of the move with the cost to the child.
How does your daughter feel when you have talked to her about the move?
She actually is fine with moving away, but to 'think' about it is totally different than to really do something. But it helps that she has a good attitude toward it.

Yeah that helps a lot. But it isn't sure fire that she wont have struggles. My kids were younger (9 and 10) when we moved and they were happy about it too. They had huge struggles the first year. Life was tough all around. But we are in our second year and things are back on track. I really didn't expect as much struggles as we had, because they were younger and happy about the move. But am glad we made it through! And the move was the best thing for our family in the long run.
I had to change schools in 7th grade, 10th grade and 11th grade due to parent's careers and I turned out ok. If your daughter is OK with it then don't worry.
I moved every few years since my dad was in the military. It's easier for kids and teens to adjust than you'd think. My sister went to FOUR high schools due to our moves (during those four years we lived in Washington, California (half year public school, one year private school) and Virginia) and she did okay.
