We must debate mercy killing of disabled babies, say top doctors| News | This is London

I'm taking an ethics class for allied health care workers and this is a hot topic in my class. I'm not one to NOT speek up when it comes to my opinions, but I really have no words to describe how I feel about this, because I really DON'T know

I might move this to the debate forum. My professor suggested putting it on the parenting forum though.

What do you all think?

I am not a parent but I agree with this and I also feel like any parent who doesn't agree is not thinking about the child suffering but about them suffering without a child

WHATTTTTT ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKING ????? Killing babies because their parents are poor ? If that is the question ,then that is totally out of the question !!!One thing would be that their are plenty of people ready to take the babies for adoption ,,,couples who can't have babies of their own ! Then there is always the question of going back to the hitler days like the first two posters seem to agree with ! Think about it people !!! The only one you are fooling is yourself if you really think we ( the american public ) are going to agree to actually kill our babies to please you ! If you want to see someone killed ,just because you say so ,,,go get a gun ,,,look in the mirror ,,,point the gun at yourself ,,,and do yourself !!!!!!!!!! Leave our kids alone ,and lay off the drugs while you're at it !!!

Whoaaa, hold on a second! That isn't what they said. The "mercy killing" is for babies that are extremely disabled! EXTREMELY

I can understand where you are coming from if that what you thought was implied was.

Absolutely not ,,,I know the deal here ,and who are we to decide to kill an absolutely innocent human being ? No matter at all what is wrong with it ! We are suppose to have doctors now days that can practically perform miracles ! What's up with that ,and also just giving up on the absolutely innocent to these people who want to kill them for their handicap?

I knew a wee lad that was born without a majority of his brain...birth family didn't want him and left his fate to others. A couple, with hearts as big as the sun, said we will take him. There was a lot THEY said he'd never do. Well THEY were right a fair bit, but there were things he did do and it amazed THEY, the doctors, speechless. The biggest thing this wee lad did was teach humility and love and compassion for the less forunate, during his short nine yrs on earth. I know...I saw it in his smile and it touched my heart.

This can only be a personal decision based on intense introspection and discussion with one's family and doctors. It's easy to say, "Oh, I could never do this," or "Of course I would do that," but you never really know unless it happens to you. I have strong feelings on the subject but think there's not much point to debating this topic, sorry.

I do not think there is anything wrong with letting nature take it course. If either a young or old person cannot eat anymore or at all normally, cannot breath on their own. Let nature take its course. It is not "killing" someone, they are just not meant to survive in the natural world.
