GREENFIELD, Calif. — Police have arrested a Greenfield man for allegedly arranging to sell his 14-year-old daughter into marriage in exchange for $16,000, 100 cases of beer and several cases of meat.
Police say they only learned of the deal after 36-year-old Marcelino de Jesus Martinez went to them to get his daughter back because payment wasn't made as promised.
Man... thats a lot of money...$16,000. I know of a place in Mexico where you can buy a girl like that for $200.00. I'm not kidding at all. While living in Mexico City met a man who did just that. She stayed with him for two yrs and while going to school the same time. The girl met a boy at school and they split somewhere and he never saw her again. He figured he got his moneys worth. She cooked and washed the clothes and kept his place clean.
Heard the same story of availability from other people I knew so know it's true. Won't say what state in Mexico.

Sad state of affairs around the world where people can be bought. Read article recently about Egyptian couple in CA who bought african girl to be a servant for $40 per month...which was great money in her village...they made her stay in the garage. We are very fortunate the standard of living we have in the US despite the problems.
