My daughter started when she was 13- average these days and was told she shouldn't grow more than an inch or incha and a half which we were thankful b/c she was so tall already. My niece just started and she is almost 11 and short- does this mean she won't grown more than an inch also- we are hoping not so- she need some height!!

How tall is your niece? How tall are her parents? I got my period when I was 11 (I am 43 now) and I think I grew around an inch after that. I am 5'3' tall and my parents are both pretty short.

I'm with Momma Bear. I think people's height depends a lot on the height of their parents or even grand parents-great grandparents. I have seen some really short parents have really tall kids and visa versa, but usually it's because somewhere in the family line someone was really tall or really short.

I started my period around the age of 13 as well and I was just a bit over 5'. I continued to grow up until I was 16-17 and I am now 5' 6". Girls will usually go through a big growth spurt just prior to starting their MC and then continue a slower growing period anywhere from 1-4 years after starting their MC. However this is not always the case. In general girls will continue to grow until they are around 18yo, but it may be at a slower pace than it was prior to their MC.

We were talking about this the other day and wondered if that had any merit. My dad was 6' and I have a brother a couple of inches taller than dad. I started at 11 and grew 3 more inches after that and ended up at 5'4....not tall at all.

My first daughter started around 12 and still grew all through high school ending at 5'6".
My second started closer to 14 but stopped at 5'3" before she ever started.
My third daughter is already at 5'2" at 11 and still growing constantly. She grew over 8 inches in one year so far! She hasn't started yet. Her dad is also 5'4" like me, but his dad is tall and so are his sisters.

So....we'll see what happens in the next few years.

thanks- we are hoping she will grow-she's not even 5 feet yet- her parents are both short and stout- but we have tall genes on my side- both my kids are 6 feet-ages 14 and 17 the pediatrician said she should be 5'7" - but i really doubt that

This is an interesting idea. I have 2 sisters, one older and one younger.

My older sister started hers at 13 and she is 5'5".
My younger sister started hers at 12, and she is only 5'3".
But I didn't start mine until I was 14 and I am 5'9".

I have no idea how much any of us grew after starting.

Wow....this is much more complicated than doubling their height at the age of two.

I got mine at 11 and only grew maybe 2in after. My DD started hers at 12 and she has only grown maybe 2in since, she's 15 and hasn't grown any in the last year so I think she is done, much to her chagrin, she wanted to be taller than me (5'3") but she didn't make it (5'2 1/2").
