If you think your kids/teens might have strep, how soon do you get them tested?
What if they were exposed to someone with strep? Would that affect it?

TG's sister had it, he's sick now and I've been around him and today I feel like I have a fever and sore throat.

I don't wanna test too soon and have to retest.

So, when it came to potential strep, what did YOU do?

If you have the fever and sore throat, I would go first thing in the morning. The sooner you get meds for it, the sooner you will get better and the sooner you don't expose others.
My dh got the fever a day before I did, and we went to the doc the day after I came down with it. We both tested positive for strep (so it was only about 24 hours for me and 48 for him). We also took our daughter to her doctor to get tested (though she seemed okay). She tested negative and never did come down with it - even though 3 kids in her daycare class had it and was likely how we were exposed.

I had strep every year from when I was 5 till about 17. Strep takes 3 days to a week show symptoms and doesn't always come with a sore throat. I don't think you can test too early for it since if you have it you have it. I always recommend getting the shot of antibiotics since you will start to feel better the next day and be back to normal sooner.

You don't need to go to the ER for a strep test either. Look for a walk in clinic. Might even be one at Walmart....

It is hard to say since I don't know what they actually feel like. Now that I know what to look for, as soon as it is obvious to me I take them in. The one time I had it I went as soon as it was obvious that it was more than a regular cold.

King Soopers sometimes have walk in clinics too.

I posted this at work..
I went home, looked at my throat, had my mom look at my throat, she told me it looked like someone stabbed the back of my throat.

It can probably still wait until tomorrow. I don't know how late walk in clinics are open, but I'd choose one of those in the morning of the ED tonight.

If you have a positive strep test tonight or tomorrow, you're going to have to call in sick. You should probably call in tonight so they aren't scrambling in the am.
