Default Grew up in Boston Pennsylvania

Grettings from Shenzhen China. Living here now, but I grew up in tiny Boston Pennsylvania. I am told it is the only other city named "Boston" in America after the famous one. The town, well under 3000 people is on the youghiogheny river. It was like living in Andy Griffiths town of "Mayberry" (if you remember the TV show of the same name). Simple clean outdoors. It was a wonderful upbringing. A throw-back place to a different simpler time in America. I look back on the time with the warmest of memories. Fishing on the river, playing in the woods. Lots of kids for pick-up football, baseball, etc. Super safe. Country fairs, Apple pie and the sort. It sounds idealic, and it really was. Today they have have converted a old rail path into hiking and bicking trail. It is rated as on of the most scenic trails in America.

yes, As much as I enjoyed it I never truely appriciated this home until I was grown and moved away. Today it is not much different then when I grew up there several decades ago. this link Youghiogheny River Trail shows a few photos of the place. For more photos google Youghiogheny River Trail. Also google earth has a map. The town is "tucked" in a bend of a river and behind it are steep and roliling hills and valeys, and lot of streams. It is a bed room community even today. No real ecconomy, on one gas station, etc. However, I know I will get debate on this but in my opinion the greatest pizza and hoggie shop in the world is located there. I have traveled all over the U.S., Europe, and now in Asia. Nothing compares to the pizza and hoggies I had at "Central Pizza Shop" on Smithfield Street in little Boston. Just thinking about their food , make me want to buy a 1200 dollar plane ticket from China to have one of their great peperoni pie's and an Italian Hoagie.

Hey, NobleWolf, my daughter is living in Shenzhen! BTW, Roundtrip Newark - Hong Kong is under $900 if you go in April, that's when we're going to visit.

Another neat thing about Boston was the wild life. Deer, possum, racoons, pheasant, owls in the trees out side my bed room window, hawks, and even an occasional bobcat treed by a dog we could safely observe. I interacted with them all. I am not a hunter, but did go "spotting' for these animals all the time. Also Boston was in the migrating path of Canadian geese and late October at dusk flocks would land at a nearby lake for a day or two before heading off again. That same lake was great to ice-skate on in the winter. Not far away was a country golf course and we were allowed to toboggon on the steeper fairways in the winter. WOW what great memories. I want to go home....but you never really can to "those day", except in my minds eye.

Here in China I have seen some amazing places too. I was in the bamboo mountians in middle China. A business man took me to his parents home that has been continous in his family for 1000 years. I could see why, it was so beautiful. Artiesian water carried in bamboo pipes. fresh food grown, and animals raised right there. I had a delightful time and a wonderful meal. Latter I wandered in the bamboo forest, it was so peaceful and quiet
That is a huge contrast to Shenzhen a city of 14 million and growing. One of the most modern and high-tech cities on earth. China has 140 cities over 1 million. America has 14

Merry Christmas everyone.
