My suggestions is more along the lines of your car breaks down in the middle of no where late on Sunday afternoon and you have the GF and her young daughter in the car. Happened to me.

They don't take cash! I live in a metro area where bank ATM's are everywhere along with stores where you can buy a pack of gum and get cash back.

The issue, due in part to my own ignorance, was the need to spend $5.00 total to pay $21.50.

Additionally PennDot has cost involved with having to process checks and money orders.

Ahh, sorry I misread. They should accept cash.

Has anyone ever tried paying the Penndot DMV with an electronic check?

With my bank, I can use electronic checks through an app on my phone.

I wonder if this would work at the DMV office.

Why not just pay on-line? I haven't paid at a DMV except for when our kids got their licenses. I do everything else on-line including our car registration renewals and our DL's renewals.

No, but I doubt they take electronic checks. They feed your check through a machine. You'll need a regular check or money order. Alternatively, you could go to a private shop (they are on the Penn DOT website) and pay cash or credit card or you could renew online and bring your photo card to the DMV for the pic.
