Someone, whom I won't name (loose cannon) misspelled hunky as honky.

Well there may remain some of that heritage in the Pittsburghese dialect. You can watch videos on it by doing a search! Some say it's Irish but there were also many eastern Europeans that settled there and most likely added to the dialect.

Sherman Hemsley (George Jefferson) was an actor and comedian.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honky

"On the TV series The Jeffersons, George Jefferson regularly referred to a white person as a honky (or whitey) as did Redd Foxx on Sanford and Son. This word would later be popularized in episodes of Mork & Mindy by Robin Williams and Jonathan Winters..."

Northeastern PA here. Dja want that wit, or wit not? That's from the Heynabonics Handbook.

There's not much left of that, either. Just fragments.

If you go to the various coal region towns, you'll find remnants of their culture there today. The "onion tops", eastern orthodox churches, are still there and look to be well maintained. Frackville has one right along route 61. Ashland Pa has an onion topped fire station right along the main street on route 61.
On pierogis.... I'm not much of a fan of them but once long ago I had potato and sauerkraut ones which were good. Does anybody make or sell them in Pa?

Uh, yep.

Where to Buy

Plus about every church dinner and restaurant. They might be the most visible remnant of Slavic culture once you're out of view of the onion domes.

Are there any other things associated with Hunky culture besides certain types of good ? For example are there any Hunky stereotypes ? Also are people of so called Hunky extraction more assimilated to American culture than ( say ) Italian Americans who live in the same area ?

What do you mean by "assimilated to American culture"? The descendants of central Europeans who came over to mine coal have been fully assimilated for generations. I don't see them as any more or less assimilated than any other ethnic group that's been here that long.
