Hi to all in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. I am coming into town tomorrow to start the house hunt-impecable timing with the current weather. I was wondering if the streets are being plowed during this storm or if they are going to be a disaster again. We will be driving down from Newark tomorrow afternoon. Any updates would be appreciated.

Yikes! It is probably not the best weekend to come. It is supposed to continue snowing right through the night and into tomorrow morning. I live about an hour from Wilkes-Barre, but yesterday the prediction was 2 - 4 inches, by 6 PM last night it changed to 11 inches, and now I see on WNEP, it is up to 16 inches for our area.
The good thing, it is not ice like the Valentines storm, it is a very light fluffy snow. BUT.... there is lots of it.

Here in Pittston they've apparently learned from their mistakes; a township plow truck is making its third pass through our subdivision as we speak, and we currently have about 10 inches of the white stuff on the ground. The difference between this storm and the last one is that the Valentine's Day storm was very ice-laden, whereas this snow is quite light and fluffy. Plows (and shovels) had a hard time breaking through the thick ice back on February 14, but the snow is easily being plowed this time around. Then again, I'm sure we'll hear about just how "bad" the roads were in Scranton for another three weeks, even though temperatures are supposed to be near 60 again next week, which will mean a SPEEDY melting process! LOL!

Thanks for the updates. We have had plane reservations for weeks now,so not a whole lot of option about when to come. I'm glad to hear that the roads are getting plowed,so we should be able to make it.

Have a safe flight into Newark! Family friends of ours are also flying into the Scranton airport via Cincinnati tomorrow, so if they can make it into our rinky-dinky airport, then Newark should be a breeze for you guys. You'll have about an hour-and-forty-five-minute to two-hour drive then from Newark into our area. When visiting, please try to picture NEPA a bit "prettier" than it currently looks. Try to envision greenery on the trees, flowers, grass, etc. instead of just black snow along the roadways (or yellow snow ), and bare tree limbs. If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know! Are you staying at a local hotel?

Happy house hunting in NE PA. New Jersey had basically rain out of this storm, but the area here got an average of 10 inches of snow. Roads are still snow covered, but passable for the most part. The Pocono area had the greatest amount of snow, close to 16 inches. Governor lowered the speed limit to 45 on state roads, so just take it slow and you should be OK. At least the flood warnings have been lifted. Road conditions should improve during the day. Have a safe trip.

How are the roads up that way today?

My son drove to the Jim Thorpe area yesterday. They left southern DE before 10:30 a.m., and didn't arrive until 5:00 p.m. Haven't heard from him today.

Roads are just wet today. We shoveled our driveway, and that strong March sun helped to melt every little bit of slush that was left behind. Our cars are now cleaned off as well, helped largely by the sunlight.

Thanks, S/WB!

I talked to him when he got within 5 miles of his destination last evening. It was nearly another hour before he arrived. He said driving was treacherous.

We mothers are such a testy/worrying lot. All *that* for a Rat Dog concert!!! sigh

btw, I enjoy reading your posts and find your photos wonderfully enlightening. We put in a bid on a home south of Scranton, and it was accepted on Wednesday. I'm coming home! Just overshooting by a couple of hours. Looking forward to exploring the Scranton area.
