Bronxboy I know someone that lived there. I just called them and read your post to them. They said that the place closed around 1977. They haven't been up that way in some years so they don't know if the buildings are still there. They have not seen anyone that lived there for a number of years.
Thanks DAS. Lived there myself many yrs ago and was just curious about the "homies" and what ever happened to them. Would your friend have any info on St. Joseph's Home in Peekskill,NY? Good looking out DAS.
what exactly was the kennedy home ? just curious since i live here. 77' was well before my time (i got here in 89'). r u talkin about the opposite side of where the horse stables used to be ? i dont think there is anything but residential homes there, now.
It was a home for kids run by Catholic Charities of NY. One of many in the NY area. Most were closed in favor of 'group homes', which were more managable. 300-600 kids vs. 8-12. I believe that's approx.# of group home kids, as I left before I could be sent to one. Phew!!!

I remember leaving in January 1968 the best yea of my life to get out of their!
i was there from 1969-1976- I have a good memory- i would love to participate in your research. There are some people who always took photos during that time- if we can track those people down- i think you would be amazed. I remember so much- do you remember the summer picnics every week, do you remember the rec hall, the stables, the swimming pool competitions.. the church, the nuns and the priests. The on campus school. the great and grand meals from the kitchen, the infirmary- the stickball competitions. The channel two- softball games-remember jim jensen- he passed away several years back..just let me know what i can do..oh- the gym, the basketball games, the basketball teams- the cheerleaders, the softball games against the other homes. Yeah- then there were the girls- the prettiest and niciest people in the world. so much fun and so much love. I always think of that place. I have visited the site several times.. they knocked some buildings down, and really fenced it up for the ucp.- a great cause. anyways...you can count on me. carlos a. gutierrez- the sports fanatic of the kennedy home.
