There is a man named Mr. Elmer H. Curtis who died April 8, 1997 in Chicago, Illinois (Crook County Illinois) at age 80 (born March 13, 1917 in Oklahoma). Last known address was reportedly 3556 S. Wolcott Ave., Apt. 2, Chicago, IL. I could find no mention of an obituary notice in Chicago newspapers.
If there is someone who has access to general information databases that might mention other biographical information about him or name of family/next-of-kin, please let me hear from you. He was married to Harriet C. in Chicago on Dec. 1, 1943 but I can't locate her and I have no idea of whether they ever divorced or stayed married. I have information about a modest benefit his estate is entitled to but apparently there is no surviving relative to claim it, and there is no record of a probate estate for him at the courthouse so I assume he most likely had very little assets. If someone has access to Chicago City Directories (sometimes called Polk Directories and they can go by other names depending on what city is applicable, cross-reference directories where you can look up the street address to see who lived at that address) and could look up this address in the 1996 & 1997 directories to see who lived in Apartment 2, I would be very grateful. I somehow get the sense that he may not have had any family left but probably was sharing an apartment with someone else.
Thank you so much for sending this. In fact, I had seen it, but I just quickly scanned over it without looking at it in detail. Now that I have examined it, I have a few clues about where to do follow up research, but I still very much need the lookup in the directories to get a name before I can successfully resolve this. I have checked census records and other public records and the wife and the daughters she had before she married this man seem to have disappeared without a trace, at least with hardly any mention of them after 1940.
No, I have not yet received information about the address.
I reached out to someone who offered to help, having no social prejudice. I have the names of two persons who resided at 3556 S. Wolcott Ave. Apt. 2 (Chicago, Illinois, Cook County) in 1996 and they were said to have lived there about 5 years.
I'll send the names to you, since their ages and current locations are not known, and maybe they can help you in some way.
