Good morning, all.

I am looking to go back to school to pursue a degree in the next year. My girlfriend and I live together in a home mortgaged under her name. We have a 1 year old child. We both work full time but her annual income is substantially higher than mine. We want to have a formal wedding/ceremony in the future but are debating on getting legally married right now for financial benefits/health insurance costs/etc.

How would this affect my eligibility for financial aid and/or grants?

If you need more specific info/numbers, let me know.

Thank you, everyone.

Yes, getting married could indeed hamper your ability to get financial aid, assuming you could get it as a single. The latter proposition of course depends on your current income, non-exempt assets, and the annual cost of the education in question.
