Last month I used my credit card at several places. When I received the statement, it had four charges I didn't make. Of course I cancelled it and had them send me a new one. This month I got the statement for the new card. At the top of the list was one restaurant and right under that were 10 charges made in the same city as the ones from last month. Again, this was a brand new card, and the only place it had been used was that restaurant.

How do I report this business? And how do I ensure the CC company won't get suspicious about it keep happening? Of course I won't use any cards there anymore, but how do I ensure they will refund the charges? I usually don't call the police for stolen CC, but I think in this case I should.

Report it to the Fraud dept at your credit card company, Not the General 800 Number.

You can also report it to MasterCard/Visa/Amex/... Corporate Fraud.

MC = 1.800.MasterCard (1.800.627.8372)

Visa = (800) 847-2911

Call your credit card company and ask them the best way to get things reported to them and the police.

If you want to go the Law Enforcement route the United States Secret Service does it, but good luck getting them interested in one card/restaurant case.

1. Call your local police and file a report.
2. Stop handing your credit card over to servers who make $2/hour, and letting them walk out of sight with it for as long as they please. If the credit card has to leave your sight, use cash instead.

BTW, I'm not being unsympathetic. We've been victim to it a few times, too, and it's a huge pain in the rear. #2 is the only thing that has made a noticeable difference for us.

I'd contact local police and the corporate credit card number for merchant services. As well as your own to get the charges dismissed.

I own a restaurant and when I first started I used a local merchant service provider and we found out they were double charging not just our customers, but other businesses who used them. Nothing would show up on our transactions because they were using a different credit card reader, but somehow the name on the cards was for different businesses that used their services. We had 2 different customers bring us card statements and we finally realized what was happening. We dropped that provider immediately and reported it to the police and the credit card Corporations. All the money did get returned, but that company is still in business under the same name, I have no idea how.

Restaurant owners love cash, it saves us money with not using the cards (from 2-4%) and waitstaff like it more because they don't like to report tip income.

Be careful with credit cards, it is so incredibly easy to steal credit card information.
