Looking for tips to build my credit. I'm 39 i had credit when i was 18- early 20s paid all my bills on time then my company went out of business got behind and eventually my credit cards got charged off.

After that i went many years not using credit at all by choice. Now obviously none of those charge offs are on my credit reports because of age so i have basically no credit history.

A month ago i got a capital one credit card with a $300 limit. I also have a Lowes card with a $300 limit but that card i got under my mothers name. They gave me my own card with my name and it reports to all 3 credit agencies.

I have used both of the credit cards i used $250 of my capital one and i paid it right back before the first due date. The lowes card i used about $140 and i paid $60 the last bill the minimum was $25 I have a $73 balance.

In a few years i plan on building a small house so i'm pretty much just building my credit for any supplies i would need to buy IF i need to use credit cards as a backup.

Mostly time, but don't bump up against your credit limit often on the Capital One card. Use it regularly but don't go over $150, half of your credit line. They will bump it up and then time will go by and you will qualify for another card with a higher limit.
