Anyway, I guarantee this a thread to complain about people who worked hard to own a home.

Those evil people.

??? ??? The people I know work hard and will never own a house.

My high school GF inherited $1M on her 18th birthday and the first thing she did was buy a house on the Jersey Shore. And socked away the remaining $900K.

No work required.

One of the points of driving a Ferrari is to have YOU in THEIR rear view mirror.

I do think the faster you can pay off the mortgage the quicker you will be able to retire. The worst thing you can do is enter retirement with a mortgage and car payment. They are anchors around your neck.

Pretty sure nobody sticks a sign in the yard, but we can't wait to have our mortgage burning party and walk through the grass knowing it's ALL ours!

THAT'S IT! You've nailed it!

Just like the ADT signs people stick in their front bushes, people could stick a DR sign there to indicate their house is paid off.

One of my favorite topics as mine is paid off.
A paid off mortgage is only half the battle, however. The first half of the battle is buying less house than you need. Combine those two things, and you're well on your way to freedom.

I'll never be able to retire because I'll never be able to pay off my rent. THAT is the worst thing you can do.

That option isn't available to many people in this country.

Yet another assumption you have wrong.

Never heard of a mortgage burning party?
