I worked in IT for 30 years and had enough of computer work. I apologize for my lack of knowledge but I'll tell you what I know, which isn't much . We don't do gaming on it and we don't download .pdfs - that's what secure iMacs are for.

We've had Verizon Wireless since @9/11. Otherwise, I'd be staying away from them. Went to a bloomin'
smart phone. But they're old - Apple 5c and I got a 5s. Without taxes and stuff, we pay about $90/month. VZW actually dropped the price last year for us. I don't know why. The only time I use mine is when we're on trips and we're in a 2 month transition from one state to another now. I'm reading the NYTs and other papers, my spouse is unfortunately using Facebook, and looks at other stuff.

We considered ditching our landline but I use closed captioning phones on it. You may well be able to just use a cellphone. (Landline cost is about $30/month but bundled with internet and cable. Based on other states and other ISPs, it's about the same every place we've lived.)

I just upgraded my Verizon to the "All you Can Eat", Go Unlimited Plan. $97.84 for two lines. Military discount applied.

GO UNLIMITED 55+ LOYALTY. $90 + taxes. Two lines.

Out of pocket, I think $10/month as a rider on my husband's reimbursed phone plan for work. My cell phone is six years old and not a smartphone, so I don't have data, just phone and unlimited texting.

We'd like to reduce our cell phone bill, and I see some very intriguing numbers here.

We each have paid-off our cell phone purchases (what a rip-off that is). These phones are sufficient for our needs. Both of us just use it for some Texting and some GPS (is that considered Data ?).
For both, so $26.50 each

From what I'm gathering reading these posts, the data seems to be the costly thing. Phone plans not including data are pretty reasonable across the board.

Who's got reasonable data costs? But if you get reasonable data costs, maybe your basic phone costs go up. (They've got to get their money somehow)

This is about what we pay for our two cell phones with Verizon, but they are stickers on the data, we only have 5 gb shared.

On too is $20/m for our two new Samsung galaxy something phones.

OP: after nearly 3 years BOTH our moto X phones gave up the ghost, and on them you cannot just replace the battery, so beware if you have a Moto X.

Our new galaxy sj7 s are waaaaay faster than the moto X, so we are pleased, and at just $10/m per, ( for 2 years) we feel the upgrade was worth it. That's $240 per phone but we paid that for our moto X s.

Shop around when you are boots on the ground, there are cheaper plans and cheaper phones, but we use ours all the time, I'm typing on it now.
( which explains why some posts don't make sense in spots if I don't catch auto corrects own errors. Once I mistype some word on here, auto correct seems to thibk that's the spelling I want, even if I spell it correctly. The rest is just fat fingers on little letters typos).
So I'm not liking THAT feature..

Good luck finding a plan " just right" for you when you return to the US.

i think im paying $70/month (including taxes/fees) for two lines with cricket. one line has 8gb fast data then gets throttled down and the other line has 2gb fast data then gets throttled down. it was 80, i dropped my mother in laws plan to 2gb to save $10. it looks like she is going to use up her 2GB data before the end of the period, so let's see if she complains about slow internet.
