Our Thanksgiving was marvelous, except for the trip home. we came home from "Grandma's" Friday night. We pulled over into a deserted parking lot to read our map. Out of nowhere, a little dog came up to the car, barking, growling, didn't seem to know what to do. It looked like a chiuauaua (sp). We thought it might be lost, but he did have a collar. Then, we noticed his hind leg was broken, he was limping on 3 legs We wanted to help it, but when we tried to get out of the car he ran off. there were houses back of the parking lot, perhaps he lived there?

How sad, little guy! I don't know what we could have done if we managed to catch him, he might have bit us, I couldn't take the risk with the kids. The parking lot was totally deserted, no one to contact.

Perhaps I should call animal control and see if they can pick him up? but, animal control would probably put him to sleep...........just a sad thing to see.......

Poor little dog. That would have totally ruined the day for me. I would have called animal control if I couldn't help in any other way. Even if they did put him/her to sleep at least they wouldn't be suffering. I have to say though that not all calls are bad. I did see a dog on the side of the road that was hit one morning, animal control was already there. I called animal control to see if I could help in some way with medical expenses. Turns out they contacted the owner and the owner came and got him. So sometimes it is a good outcome.

Just yesterday we saw something similar. two beautiful dogs, well-behaved, sitting outside a store, waiting for their owner. I saw the owner come out and they followed him, so I know they at least had an owner. One dog had an obvious broken hind leg, limping on 3 legs

This was a dog who had an owner, and one who appeared kind and concerned, the dogs weren't afraid of him.

In this society where money is so tight, pets are really victims. Vet bills are so expensive, there is no "charity care; for animals. We can barely afford our cats. We buy food at Costco, and get their shots at those shot clinics they hold at community centers, etc. We bought a Banefield care plan, which is pretty good, but might have to drop it next year........
