29 y/o guy looking to make friends (school, camping)

I grew up in the area, went to school out of state and lived there for a few years. My wife and I moved back to the immediate NW suburbs of Philly to find most of my former local school friends moved on.

I'm looking to meet new people with a positive outlook on life. I can be sarcastic and enjoy a good laugh, but I'm tired of cynical people. I enjoy bikeriding, playing board games, strolls, general outdoorsy stuff (I've been meaning to get back into camping), conversation, acoustic concerts, and other things. Because of stomach gastro issues I can't drink much, just fyi.

Ive joined several meetups, but they dont always have events that interest me. Ive attended a bookclub and a frisbee golf event

If you play ultimate frisbee, try pada.org. If you don't want to play league, they also have a link for pickup games.

Thanks for the info. I also have herniated discs that keep me from running, sadly. I miss playing soccer

Well then, I don't know what else to tell you. There are SO many Meetup groups in the area. Find ones that interest you. If they don't, find another social group - sports, shared interests, etc.

You probably mean well but that came off rude to me. I was even hoping to find likeminded people on here.

I find it hard to believe that out of hundreds and hundreds of active Meetups in the area, there's not one with things that interest you. There's many social groups in the area outside of Meetup - like I said, Google is your friend. It seems you are finding more reasons why things will not work for you, and that could possibly be the reason why you're having a hard time making friends. I've lived here for 6 months and out of all the places I have moved in my adult life, Philly has been the absolute easiest for me to make friends.

I would also have to suggest joining a MeetUp... there are tons of different groups, maybe keep looking?

There is also Network After Work - Business/Professional Networking Events which has monthly events. I've been to a few in DC and Baltimore and have met a few interesting people. Maybe you'll have some luck with the one in Philly.

In my experience, the forums are a place where people exchange information and perhaps engage in casual conversation on off-topic threads but rarely attempt to meet in person. I would concur with previous suggestions to find social groups that share any of your various interests, whether through Meetup or elsewhere.
