I am working on a novel about Glomar Explorer that was built in Chester PA.

Does anyone know of a bar that was open in the 1971 to 1973. Where employees of Sun Shipbuilding would go after work.

Also looking for Apartments that would have been near the docks. (Within and old man's walking distance. If possible.)

I write historical thrillers and it's cool if someone reads my novel and says "Hey I remember that!"

Nothing will be written that puts Chester in a bad light.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip. It led me to Sun's historical Society.

Thanks again for the tip.

You're welcome.

This site has a list of businesses. Morianni's Bar might work. "A ship yard staple. Cash your check, drink, eat and (well) sleep the night away if necessary." Also Marine Bar.

Thank you so much!!!!

That was what I was looking for. And as a bonus I have a picture and nick-name of the one of the owners.

I had found that historical page but not ever having been to Chester PA the addresses didn't mean much and I was hitting locations much too far away.

A lot of building in that area have been torn down. I've been looking for an address. I noticed in 1999 they orn down much of 2nd street when they cleared land for Hwy 281.

Thanks for the info!

You have a name and picture of which place?

I've only been to Chester once and that was in the 2000s. A lot was gone by then. I'd love to have seen it when it was a thriving city. I feel the same way about Camden, New Jersey.

Good luck with the book. If it's published, please let us know. Since this is C-D, you'll probably have to perform a bit of slight-of-word and ask us if we intend to read it.

If you go to google earth and dial the satellite photos back (clock icon) the file goes back to 1992. You can see that Highway 281 wasn't there till after 2000.

The only photo I found was the obituary photo of Mr.Benjamin Iannucci's obituary photo.

It looks like much of Chester has been torn down around the old Sun shipyard. The north side is now a Horse track from what I researched.

If anyone else reading this thread has pictures please let us know.

I also emailed the head of historical society you suggested. I'll let you know when he pings me back.

Again thanks for the help!

Make sure you spell "weird" correctly when you write your novel! Besides that, not ending a questions with a question mark, improper capitalization, and incomplete sentences seem like weird writing habits for a novelist.
