My fiancee and I are looking to buy a home sometime in the spring/summer. We are currently living apart (myself in NE Philly and she's around the airport area south of the city).

We are looking in Bucks and Montgomery County for homes. I work in Neshaminy and she will be working nearby as well.

So my question is, can someone give me an idea of a nice area/neighborhood for a young couple starting out? We hoped to get a modest sized single home for less than 300k.

We are looking for a place where neighbors know each other, low crime, and a general nice place to be. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

For a young couple starting out, and someplace close to work I'd recommend Yardley. There's a pretty good inventory of smaller three bedroom-two bath homes in the mid $200K through $300K range. If you're looking to start a family, you'll be in a good Bucks County School District and the area is always in demand for resale should you choose to move at any point. Good luck!

Yardley, Morrisville (only the falls township part/pennsbury schools), Langhorne, Newtown, Richboro. Those are the ones I would recommend the most. Also remember as first time homebuyers if you buy before the end of next year you will recieve the 8k tax credit (which now does not have to be paid back). You can also take advantage of some competitive rates out there right now and if you don't have a lot of money to put down you can go FHA and only put 3.5% down. Your best bet if you want a single family home out of the places I listed would be Yardley, Langhorne or Richboro. Newtown is nice, but for 300k you're going to be looking at a townhome not single family. I think I'd lean towards Richboro or Yardley the most - the best schools out of the bunch in case you have kids and end up staying, and good resale value as well.
