Hey Philadelphians,

Posted a thread awhile back about living in East Falls near a job but am looking downtown now. Does anyone commute via the HXH (Mount Airy/East Falls/Hunting Park, etc.) to the Erie Avenue BSL to get downtown to Spring Garden/Center City/South Philly or is this route generally one to avoid? Looking to do this around 8 am and 4 pm through the year. Figured it's cheaper than using the RR from Queen Lane and faster than buses that might take more roundabout routes. Help!!!

Thanks!

It can get crowded during those times, a lot of school kids use it. It's cheaper than the train but would take you much longer to get downtown, considering you need to then hop the subway. The good thing is that you can catch the express train at Broad & Erie.

Thanks, I am more a fan of crowded than empty. Also, I'm thinking about safety too, and with the potential need to stay late at work sometimes I imagine that could get a little dicey. Thanks again, and I'm open to more suggestions.
