Who here is brainy enough and gracious enough to explain this to a non-science person? I am curious about it and would like moire insight.

Kind of simple--in the beginning. Then it gets real weird.

Set up a track with one fork (left and right). A marble runs down the track to the fork. Instead of choosing either the left or right fork, it splits in half. Each half becomes a whole. Now, two identical marbles travel down either the right or left track.

Since each marble is now independent of the other, each will take on unique properties. Once identical, now they are the same in essence, but taking different paths, experiencing different (as well as same) events but becoming somewhat unique.

Each fork marks a turning (or tipping) point in life.

------
In another view, you clone a person seven times at the same time.

Some people like to use Hitler as the subject for cloning.

Seven very different people will grow up, especially if you separate the children and place them in different (let's make it highly different) environments.

Seven Hitlers--identical--each creating their own worlds of experiences and emotions. How many of them might grow up to be manaical dictators? Odds are: none. And, none of them would have any tendencies to become one, other than the normal urge to be the "king of the dung hill of Earth" like the rest of us.

There are many people who can explain more than I can, but I take it that there are worlds on different time lines than the one we are on. The idea is that there are many parallel universes where every possible action is played out.

Here's a link to the quantum mechanics explanations

Many-Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)

and here:
Many Universes, Several Theories

Quote:
In 1957 Hugh Everett III, then a graduate student at Princeton, and his adviser, Dr. John Wheeler, proposed a variant of quantum theory that came to be known as the many worlds interpretation. The mathematics is the same as ordinary quantum theory, but in this version, instead of the wave function's collapsing with each measurement, the universe splits into parallel universes, one for every possible outcome of every possible contingency: universes in which the Boston Red Sox are just now wrapping up their 10th World Series championship, universes in which dinosaurs still stride the earth.

Alas, the other universes, if they exist, would be invisible and unreachable.
In science fiction, travel between the universes becomes possible, so who knows what may happen some day.

There are stories of Catholic saints who were able to bilocate, or to be in two places at once.

All possible "Earths" that could exist, do.
Probably as parallel universes.
Basically as time progresses it splits upon free-will and random chance into forks, so that the only thing that IS predetermined is the fact that all possibilities will be realized.

The black-holes may contain multi-verses as well. Fascinating! Supposedly time does not exist in the center of the black-hole, Hawkings actually says this the key to finding out how the (our) universe created itself thus removing the need for a Creator (spoiler alert Mr. Hawkings this will not dispell the notion of a Creator God).
Every Black Hole Contains Another Universe?

Hawkings is fascinating and explains things really well.

Correct . . . it is a hypothesis.
