I was exchanging emails with a friend and told him to do several things...and said" hop to it times a wastin'!"
His response: "Time can't be wasted because it doesn't exist."
Do you think there is no such thing as the past and the present? Are we in a perpetual state of 'nows?"
Based on other conversations I've had with him he has mentioned things I did to him in the past which make him hesitant to continue our friendship. Obviously we have mended our differences but is he contradicting himself by referring to the past experience yet not believing time exists?
This is new to me as I have little exposure to physics. I am Christian too but that shouldn't factor into this theory as He created physics....I'm confused!
Any thoughts?
It has been scientifically demonstrated that time speeds up when you are moving with greater velocity. That surely proves that time is a physical property of the universe. You're friend is just trying to make himself appear to be a profound thinker. Even if time isn't a physical property of the universe, what we think of as time can still be wasted.
Time in physical form does not exist, its just that humans have developed mechanical means (watches and clocks) to cut up the day into segments which have come to be called seconds, minutes and hours.
Thank you for your thoughts...I didn't have enough time to search through the forums I will check now though. THX!
If time doesnt exist then why would it be a factor in your searching through forums?
Also if time didnt exist there would be no past /present or future as time defines these parameters.
Time itself, the way I see it, is a condition of life and death, the cycle
which we are within, as we and all around us deteriorates and dies;
as the seasons transpire, that is an effect caused by something.
Is it caused by "time" ? I don't think so. Whether you choose to believe
the Biblical reasons or not, it is undeniable.
The motions of the cosmos, as planets circle their stars, other objects
traverse their courses and the birth/death cycle is evident even in these,
the same precept applies, of the nature we perceive; again, not
because of time, but serving as a meter by which time is quantified.
In a less metaphysical sense, the more particular ways we measure time
have only become part of the daily and yearly lives of ordinary people
because the societies we've developed are more industrial and mercantile;
they have regimented our lives and habits, forcing us to adapt to a paradigm
which I associate with servility.
